Submission deadline for presentation proposals: February 5, 2010

Rooms for Discussion will experiment with a change from the traditional format of the conference to that of the workshop. To that end, we ask graduate students to submit proposals related to the issues they are currently researching in order to foster discussion between peers from different critical backgrounds.

The workshops will be structured around brief presentations (three pages) that describe the central issues of a research project in progress. Each presentation will be complemented by dialogue with a pre-assigned respondent who will open the discussion and there will be plenty of time for exchange. The dynamic of questions, discussion, and suggestions will permit a fluid, open interaction that will give participants the opportunity to present their work more freely.

The topics proposed for roundtable discussion are:

* Commemorations
* Display of Devotional Images
* El nuevo imaginario femenino
* Fracasos
* Imagen y texto
* Leyendo la violencia
* Literary and Cultural Translation
* Literatura y drogas
* Los límites de la auto(bio)grafía
* Lost Boys
* Politics and Aesthetics in the Latin American Novel
* Premodernidad y tecnología
* Queer latinoamericano
* Relación entre economía y literatura

Proposals for individual presentations will continue to be accepted until February 5, 2010. If you wish to propose a project that does not fit with the discussion topics listed on the conference website, please send it directly to roomsfordiscussion@gmail.com. We look forward to learning more about the questions of interest to our peers in other institutions.
